Power to Reason 💡 Let’s use it!

The verses below show a major translation difference between the KJV (along with all other English translations) and the NWT.  Take a look at them and then meet me again underneath the photo.

So above we see that the Kingdom interlinear shows the KJV to be on track and the NWT to be…not so much.

The other translations say things like “this is your logical worship.” This is your reasonable service or sensible worship and the like.

The last sentence is referring back to the “presenting of your bodies as a living sacrifice.”  It describes that act as being a reasonable or logical and spiritual way to serve or worship God.  The offering to God of our bodies should be something we naturally think is the right thing to do. It makes sense to us.

And the verse written that way also makes sense.

What doesn’t make sense?

Referring back to the offering of your body as a living sacrifice…and saying it’s a service with your power of reason.

Pause to reflect. I’m not making this up. It really doesn’t make sense, does it?

But why would they translate it that way? Did they just make an obvious goof?  Knowing the unique doctrines and expectations of the society, I can usually see a direct benefit for the org or a doctrinal need to twist a word or phrase whenever there’s a strange change like this. This time it appears to be linking our bodily sacrifice to our use of reasoning ..which of course is done “out in service.”  So the presenting of your body to God= “the preaching work” requirements of the Orginization. They are sending you a message. A message that the verse did not intend.

So here I have used my power to reason to consider context and the sources available to me to say…NWT isn’t trustworthy.

    Well done, Wordgirl!
It just goes to show how subtle the watchtower is. Just a little translation tweak that seems like an oddity to be skipped over like a speedbump to us average Evangelical Christians, is actually a significant manipulator and motivator in the minds of the indoctrinated Jehovah’s Witnesses.
