It’s not that they totally erased Jesus, it’s just that they have moved him in the verse. It’s a very creative translation, to say the least. They took the word “christou,” translated “of Christ” and connected adjectively with “spirit” in ALL the other translations, and have instead connected it with the verb “predicted.” Their proposed sentence construction is awkward, saying “what…the spirit within them was indicating concerning Christ as it testified beforehand about the sufferings meant for Christ.” See? There’s Jesus, still there, but hiding in the phrase “concerning Christ.” Their translation makes no sense, since it makes the clause redundant. In the Greek text “christou” immediately follows “pneuma” (spirit) and matches it grammatically–it’s a common construction in Greek, and any Greek scholar would tell you that they are grouped like that to indicate that “of Christ” modifies “spirit,” acting like an adjective, not an adverb. How do their pseudo-scholars sleep at night, knowing that they have creatively come up with a translation that NO ONE ELSE has EVER proposed before, that I can find. Wow. Great find, WordGirl. To use the JWs’ expression, you are truly “digging for spiritual gems.”
Thanks for the insight on the Greek! You’re totally right. I was thinking they chopped him off but really they just twisted him around. Which is consistent with what they always do.
