In the 1950 NWT, John the Baptist was said to be a pioneer. I kid you not!
– 1950 NWT, Luke 1:76 – “But as for you, young child, you will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will PIONEER before Jehovah, to make his ways ready.”
Of course, for whatever reason, they found it better in this case to go with the Actual Greek words in later publications 🙂
A Twist in Translation 
Great observation. How true that this kind of ‘translating’ is too massage the spiritual necks of JWs to believe they are being like early Christians. When really, and sadly they are being put under the man-made yolk of JW.Org. A heavy unnecessary burden. So glad I am out though the loss of family and friends is so tough.
